Mother Dearest

I wrote this poem dedicated to my mother.

My mother and I have a different relationship compared to what a “normal” mother and daughter relationship is like. My sister says we clash because we are practically the same person. I definitely got a lot of my positive and negative traits from her.

We fought and clashed a lot while I was still living under her roof and growing up. Now that I am older, I appreciate so many things she has done for me and taught me. Without her dedication and tough love, I would not be who I am today. Everyday I am learning, and for that I thank my mother dearest.

As i hold my mothers hand

We walk side by side

Her fingers overlap

My tiny knuckles

Gripping tight.

Protecting me.

As time goes by

The grip begins

to loosen.

As i navigate life

Without her touch

When the time comes

I will return

To the motherland

Walking side by side

Now protecting

her.
