Quarantine Activities

Hey everyone! Hope you are staying strong and occupied at home as this quarantine continues.

It’s been a little over three weeks since I’ve been in quarantine, and just a week ago I actually started to find ways to keep myself distracted and use my time wisely. Everyday has been a rollercoaster of emotions; some days I would feel super motivated, other days I just wanted to curl up in my bed and sulk in my depression. But recently I found new hobbies and work to dive into so I can keep myself distracted and not get sucked into my negative thoughts.

Writing Workshops / Online Classes

As you know (by having this blog) I love to write. Late last year, I decided I wanted to write a book about my life and all the hard obstacles I’ve had to overcome from a young age. I have never taken writing classes (other than my AP English class in Senior Year which I did not take it seriously, at all), I have never been to college, and let alone thought i’d ever write a book. So during this stay-at-home order, I wanted to indulge in learning how to properly write a memoir. I found a video-lesson writing course taught by Joyce Maynard, called “Writing Your Story”. It has 26 videos which guides you step by step in writing your own story and discovering yourself as you write. It’s been taking up a lot of my time and I am enjoying her guidance very much.

I definitely recommend taking classes and educating yourself in subjects that you are interested in. Many colleges are teaching online for free at the moment, so use this advantage!

Drawing

When I lived in Japan, I was super into drawing portraits and sketching. After I moved back to Hawaii, I took art classes in high school but eventually got distracted with ‘teenage activities’. Ever since then, I stopped. So a week ago I ordered a sketch book, pencils, and decided to get back into it. I realized i’m actually pretty decent at drawing and it’s so fun! I put all my focus on my drawings, and it is very time consuming so it helps the days go by faster. I feel good about myself putting my energy in fun activities instead of staring at the ceiling or sleeping all day.

Exercise

I was a huge gym rat living in Hawaii. Once I moved here, It was hard to make time going to the gym and juggling a full time job at the same time. I lost a lot of weight from stress, and decided to accept my petite figure. Now that I am home, might as well make time for getting my curves / booty back, right? Theres so many instructors that are teaching home-workouts. My personal favorite is Tammy Hembrow – she has an app that is killer! She has different versions of home-workouts, cardio and booty building. I highly recommend working out at home, all you need is a yoga mat, some weights, and an hour of your day. I promise you will feel so great about yourself if you can look your best once this is over.

I realized that after this lockdown is over, I won’t ever have this much free time ever again. So indulging in hobbies and/or activities that I haven’t had time for before, is a great way to use my time wisely.
