Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood SS19 Ready-To-Wear
CAN WE TALK? Andreas Kronthaler, Vivienne Westwood’s husband who has been designing by her side for years, has recently started having his own collections – taking over Gold Label for Vivienne Westwood into more of a unisex line. For the past collections his shows had been a little confusing to comprehend – especially for the people who don’t follow the Vivienne Westwood style. I thought it was sort of odd in the way that he showcased his pieces throughout the shows as well. But this season was amazing. I was honestly speechless by how clear it was to see his beautiful pieces this collection. It was so easy to understand for almost anyone that was watching the show. The show was very minimal but he had lots of looks. The concept of this show seemed very current – I saw streetwear from some pieces and also the classic Vivienne Westwood tailoring in the dresses and corsets. I was so happy with the prints that he chose – especially the saturn and the horse print was very cute. The way he added props of skateboarding and the electronic scooters (which is very popular around the world at the moment) showed how he was mixing the younger generation into this show. In my opinion that connected streetwear into Vivienne Westwood. Some people might not agree with me, but I believe it is a great way to market towards the current generation.
Here are some of my favorite looks from this collection:

Maison Margiela by John Galliano SS19 Ready-To-Wear
John Galliano never seems to fail me. Ever. He does such an amazing job at the Maison Martin Margiela fashion house and is always bringing a new feeling to the brand. I heard a lot of people didn’t really like this collection because of how it doesn’t seem like the original Maison Margiela designs – but I believe that Galliano is purposely changing up the style to keep the brand alive and feeling fresh every time a new collection comes out. Some designers don’t know how to keep the brand looking different and feeling alike at the same time; Galliano knows exactly how to do that. My favorite pieces from this collection were the hats and the painted sock heels with the ankle phone holder. It added color and a chic look to the whole show. I’m praying those shoes come out for production because that will be the first thing I buy!

WORST:
Dolce & Gabbana SS19 Ready-To-Wear
I never really paid close attention to Dolce & Gabbana. But this collection caught my eye in the worst way possible. It seemed like they threw every idea they had throughout the past years into this collection. They had 151 looks this collection and none of it was pleasing to look at. I loved the idea of adding plus-sized models on the runway – that is such a movement other designers should be on. But cmon.. the tassels, leopard prints, fashion nova… I was highly disappointed. Sorry D&G fans!
Here are the worst looks from this collection:

Hedi Slimane for Celine SS19 Ready-To-Wear
This was Hedi Slimane’s first show at the Celine fashion house and many people were looking forward to what he was bringing to the table. In my opinion – I expected a lot more. A lot of the looks he brought into the collection were very similar to what he did at the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house. I believe that Phoebe Philo set such a strong image of Celine to the point where it will be difficult for Hedi to even top. Phoebe used neutral colors so I expected a little more color from Hedi’s collection. But then again – it is wrong for me to compare Hedi’s designs to Phoebe’s. He will need more time to get used to the Celine style – then hopefully he will be more creative in his next collection and show us what he is really capable of.
Here are the worst looks (almost identical to YSL) from this collection:

Michael Kors buying Versace for $2.12 Billion to Expand

This is the worst news to come up during fashion week.. and it’s not even a collection! I have never been a Michael Kors fan and I don’t believe they deserve to be in the circle of luxury fashion. So hearing this news made me really sad. I hope I don’t see Versace being carried at Tj-maxx or Macys in the next few months. The company is very big and they make a lot of money so I sort of understand why Donatella would go with him. But that would be the only pro to choose them.. so I still can’t grasp the fact that they are now co-owned by Michael Kors! I hope Versace still keeps their originality and amazing atelier couture designs from Gianni and Donatella Versace.
Hope you guys enjoyed my opinions for fashion week so far! I was supposed to post this last night but my stupid computer deleted my entire post without saving. I apologize how late this is.
